GAIA SANTUCCIO
Teacher
Originally from Sicily, is an aerial rope artist, teacher and researcher.
Movement exploration through knots and sensing is the heart of her creative and artistic investigation and focal point of the methodologies she has been developing. Structured improvisation and communication among all bodies are pillar approaches within her research work.
Her teachings are aimed at encouraging participants to develop their styles, words and language, stimulating to think through movement and experience rope intimately for a more conscious and in-depth practice. Her choreographic research points at spurring adaptive, creative and artistic skills.
After her Master studies at DOCH in Contemporary Circus Practices ending in June 2022; she was part of the pilot year directed and led by Roberto Magro, ICCAR - International Circus Centre for Artistic Research. Prior to this, she studied Etienne Decroux’ mime technique at Moveo in Barcelona and graduated at Circomedia in Bristol and the National Centre for Circus Arts in London in 2014.
Gaia is currently writing a book on the methodology she has been developing since 2020 called Rope Manipulation which will be published in 2025. She is also part of NèonTeatro, a theatre company based in Italy which works with people with different abilities.
Last but not least, she is creating her first solo show Isola-Ta.
